Note: This pattern is designed to fit a mug with a circumfere­nce of 25cm (10in) and a height of 8½cm (3½in).

Using 3mm needles, yarn A and the long-tail method, cast on 39 sts. Rows 1-2: Knit.

Rows 3-4: Knit, using yarn C.

Change to 3.25mm needles.

Begin with a RS (knit) row, work rows 1-21 of Chart B in st st throughout.

Change to 3mm needles. Knit 2 rows using yarn C. Knit 2 rows using yarn A. Cast off.

BUTTON BAND

With WS facing, using 3mm needles and yarn D, pick up and knit 20 sts along left side edge.

Knit 4 rows.

Break yarn D and join yarn F.

Knit 4 rows.

Break yarn F and join yarn E.

Knit 4 rows.

Break yarn E and join yarn C.

Knit 4 rows.

Break yarn C and join yarn A.**

Knit 4 rows.

Cast off.

BUTTONHOLE BAND

Work as for Button Band on right side edge to **.

Knit 2 rows.

Next row (RS): K9, K2tog, yo, knit to end. Next row: Knit.

Cast off.

TO FINISH

Sew button on left side to match buttonhole on right side. Weave in ends.

Using a tapestry needle and length of yarn E, embroider a French knot in centre of the flower motif.

Block by pressing lightly with a steam iron, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.

Change to 3mm needles. Knit 2 rows using yarn B. Knit 2 rows using yarn A. Cast off.

TO FINISH

Sew button on border to match location of buttonhole. Weave in ends.
