PRIVATE OASIS

Let tranquillity calm your life, surrounded by rainforest in this spectacular multifunctional property

VALUED at more than $3 million, this villagelike multifunctional property on the outskirts of Atherton has been listed for almost half of its true potential.

Surrounded by an open rainforest, with a private man-made pond and freshwater creek running nearby, this secluded property about 25 minutes from the Atherton CBD would easily rival many glamping retreats on offer in the Far North.

Elders Real Estate Malanda agent Shellie Nightingale described the 2.9ha property as a personal oasis.

“It’s a property that you have to see to believe,” she said.

“It’s got a man-made pond which holds 1,000,000L of water and has the biggest barramundi I’ve ever seen. There’s exotic plans all around, some of which are from overseas.

“The owners loved travelling and they even put in a gold-plated gate at the front (pictured above right), also from overseas.”

She said one of the owners was a gold miner who bought the 1970s-built home nine years ago and put in more than $2 million worth of work in renovations and exterior redesign.

“But apart from the general renovations, there’s a lot of personal touches from him – like etched glass throughout. Buyers won’t be interested in those personal touches and that’s why we’ve reduced the price.”

The triple-storey home includes quality timber fit-outs throughout with a mix of exposed brickwork and beams as highlight features as well as high ceilings in the living areas.

The bottom floor is partly underground with two bedrooms and a large rumpus room and windows at the rear end of the floor, that create a ground-level affect.

The ground floor includes another two bedrooms and as many bathrooms, a timber kitchen with a walk-in pantry and a large living area with a fireplace, that Ms Nightingale said wouldn’t require a TV to complete the entertainment.

“There are two large glass panels that weigh about 3000kg each. They’re big windows part of the wall and you can see out but not in. The owner would throw feed for the birds there and enjoy watching them fly in.”

Upstairs are another two bedrooms and there is a ducted vacuum system throughout, but the entertaining continues outside with two covered patio areas surrounding the house and a separate gazebo overlooking the pond.

Outside, among the 150 different palm species planted are a number of sheds, including a double-car garage with room for a campervan, a workshop and a greenhouse, which the current owners used to propagate their imported plants.

The lush, rolling lawns are endless with a private footbridge perfect for exploring through the forest.

“The owner used to travel around in a golf buggy, that’s how much space there is,” Ms Nightingale said.

“It’s a very quiet street, there are a few houses there but this is at the end.

“This property also has a 22kw solar panel system, a back-up generator and it’s fully fenced.”
