COULD YOU HANDLE A TROPICAL PARADISE?

If you’re thinking about going off the grid, getting away from it all then look no further. This highset timber pole home located on a giant 13ha freehold title block, offers all the above, as well as the occasional flood.

THERE are just two residential properties on the northern banks of the Daintree River, says LJ Hooker Port Douglas agent Steve Doble.

And now one of them, 436 Cape Tribulation Road, Daintree, which Mr Doble previously called home for seven years, has entered the market for just the third time.

The two-bedroom, highset timber pole home is located on a giant 13ha freehold title block, surrounded by rainforest, countless varieties of mangroves and one of the Far North’s most impressive rivers for a ‘backyard’.

“It’s a once in a lifetime chance to live on the banks of the famous State Marine Park of The Daintree River and possibly have your own private access to river and reef 24/7,” Mr Doble said.

“It was hand built in the 1980s by a local family. They had even set up their own saw mill onsite and used local timber as well as timber from the Tablelands.”

Upgraded 15 years ago, the home includes alloy window frames, sliding windows with screens, polished floorboards, solid timber slab kitchen benchtops, two-pack gloss cupboards and gas cooking.

Mr Doble said during his seven years at the residence, he enjoyed the natural surroundings and the occasional flood.

“Buyers need to be aware and it does take someone special to live here.

“It does flood, but the Daintree isn’t one of those rivers where it’s flash flooding. The water will rise 20-30cm per hour so you have plenty of time to make a decision. In our time there, twice the water got up to the second step from the top.

“But it’s quite amazing watching the flooding, you see all sorts of things going down the river. I’ve seen TVs, tyres, cattle and once I could hear a number of cane toads for an hour coming down the river. They had jumped on some grass from a farm upstream.”

Under home parking includes practical drive through access to a large marquee with an ageing canopy. A raised solid, gravel driveway provides access from the sealed main road just hundreds of metres from the vehicle ferry, passing the purpose-built solar power shed and raised shipping containers, to the home with a concrete water tank.

“Some final works will be required by the purchaser to complete the power system – a new cable has been run from solar panels underground to the home – and reconnect fulltime rainwater supply prior to enjoying your absolute tropical paradise.”
