RARE AND AVAILABLE

A four-bedroom family home on an “incredibly rare” double block on Whitfield has hit the market for the first time in 32 years

THIS central Cairns family home presented by RE/MAX’s Ray Murphy team has entered the market for the first time in more than three decades.

Located in a sought-after suburb is 37-39 Heavey Crescent, Whitfield, nestled inside an “easy-care” garden on an impressive 1432sq m block.

“Humbly positioned in the heart of Whitfield, this four-bedroom palatial residence is the perfect family home,” RE/MAX principal Ray Murphy said.

“The property is situated on an incredibly rare double block and has recently been refurbished; both bathrooms and laundry have been renovated plus the addition of a large outdoor, undercover entertainer’s area means this home is ready for its new owners.”

And when current owner, retiree Loretta Willmot first saw the house in 1988, just one step through the front door meant the end of an exhausting search for her family’s house.

“In 1988 there wasn’t a lot available. As soon as we saw this house, I just walked through the front door and there was a vista of greenery through every window,” Ms Willmot said.

“I said ‘I don’t want to look at any more houses, that’s the house I want to live in’.”

She said it had been their family home for 32 years and the size of the property allowing for large family gatherings was her favourite feature.

“My now late husband was working in Papua New Guinea and it was a good base because it’s close to the airport, it’s close to the schools and the uni when our children were living here as well,” Ms Willmot said.

“I’m selling to downsize but it’s been a wonderful home.

“Our daughter got married in the garden. And we have a bridge over the waterway and she got married here. It was a great atmosphere.

“And family get-togethers, it’s been wonderful. The house is big enough for the whole family to come and visit at the same time.

“We put a lovely big patio on out the back, covered with lighting and fans. There’s been lots of lovely afternoon lunches that turned into dinners there. It’s a wonderful place to sit and relax.”

The Whitfield house features four large bedrooms, including a master bedroom and ensuite — all with built-in robes and carpet — and there is an additional home office.

The “massive” chef’s kitchen features a Highland gas cooktop, electric oven and corian benchtops.

It has two separate living and dining areas in which to sit back and enjoy the scenery outside, which features a seasonal flowing creek and “sensational”, established tropical gardens.

“It just seems to grow and there is a lot of vegetation here. Over 32 years you seem to forget what you’ve grown,” Ms Willmot said.

“The neighbours are there, but it’s not intrusive. You can’t see much of their houses. “We’ve had the same neighbours for 32 years.” Mr Murphy said it would be rare to find houses like Ms Willmot’s in the future.

“Homes of this stature, simply put, do not exist any more,” he said.
