GENEROSITY ABOUNDS

This iconic Edmonton home was built to welcome visiting family and friends into their own wing while also maintaining the owners’ privacy

THE family home of the late, and “generous” Edmonton community figure Lou Piccone has hit the market for the first in its history.

And just like the legendary businessman himself, Mr Piccone’s iconic property at 13-15 Plantation Road, Edmonton was built with friends and family in mind says Lou’s son, John Piccone.

“The whole idea was that they had one part of the house for themselves, which was the eastern side. It’s got two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an office,” Mr Piccone said.

“Then it’s got the expansive lounge, dining room and kitchen. Then down the other end there’s three bedrooms and two bathrooms.

“The whole concept was we could go and visit them as families, and stay with them.

“They have a lot of friends throughout Australia and relations from Melbourne that come up every year.

“And mum and dad were always happy to have friends come and stay with them, and that western wing gave them their own bathroom, their own bedrooms, so they had that privacy.”

Built in 1995 after Lou and Elaine Piccone purchased the 0.8ha block in the late ’80s, construction actually began about five years after the completion of a rock wall at the front of the property.

“They got Ellis Beach Surf Club to build the rock wall and dad donated money to the club, which was great.

“And then they got Russell Keir to build the home and the kitchen won an award.”

The house includes five bedrooms, under 600sq m, four bathrooms, and office and multiple living and entertaining areas.

“I enjoyed the entertaining area. The ability to open up the living area, out on to the veranda with a built-in stainless steel barbecue and there’s a pool right there.

“We’ve had many Christmases there.” Outside, the private property is fully fenced and there is a cyclone rated storage shed reinforced with concrete.

And nearby is the mini timber, pole-style home treehouse, with entry via a classic wooden walkway.

“It’s lovely up there. Mum used to go out there to sit and read. She used to love to read.”

The acreage property is listed with Cairns Property Office’s Steve Habjan and RE/MAX agent Regan Piccone and is set to go under the hammer on November 21.

“It’s a real entertainers house, it’s all on one level and with the kitchen and the bar … everyone seems to mingle around there,” Ms Piccone said.

“The kitchen is award-winning, it’s all curves. The benches are curved, and the drawers and it’s been beautifully constructed. And honestly everything is so big, it’s bigger than my unit.

“And there’s a grand entrance hallway and they had artwork along it, it made you feel like you were walking into an art gallery,” she said.

Mr Habjan said the house offered the best of both worlds with its sheer size, yet private location.

“It has good usable space and there is just so much space. The openness of the home is a huge feature for guests.”
