MARINA DREAM HOME

With the owners downsizing in retirement, an opportunity to live an enviable lifestyle in this luxurious waterfront property arises

- JACK LAWRIE

A LUXURIOUS dream project on the Cairns waterfront is going up for sale, as the couple who built it prepare to leave behind an enviable seaside lifestyle.

Denis and Jackie Tudor are putting their boutique property at 18 Marina Quay, Trinity Park, up for sale.

Mr Tudor, who built the property himself, said he and his wife had always dreamt of living in a luxury waterfront property.

“We’ve been there for 11 years, but now that we’re retired, 500sq m is just a bit too big for us,” he said.

“We come from New Zealand, our kids and grandkids live there, so we’re looking to move down south to somewhere that’s smaller and a bit closer. But we hate leaving here – it’s a lifestyle to die for.

“Living in the marina is just different, we’ve got something happening all the time, as we sit out on the water with a coffee and see the boats coming in.

“From our property, the views will blow you away. We take it for granted, just seeing Earl Hill and all its nice greenery with the water out the front is just to die for.

“You can even catch fish off the front.”

The owners spared no expense building the property, which features a waterfall entrance that was carved by Mr Tudor, based on the rock walls seen driving between Cairns and Port Douglas.

It boasts seven-metre-plus high ceilings and a 20-metre frontage.

The property features four bedrooms and four bathrooms, a purpose-built media room with state-of-the-art sound system and a huge amount of storage throughout – even a wine cellar.

Mr Tudor said the security had been kept up to date with modern standards, with private and secure parking within a gated front entrance, as well as an additional covered and secure parking bay for a boat or caravan.

“We put everything into this house, from the airconditioning right through the whole place, to the security system which lets us monitor every room in the place from our phones,” Mr Tudor said.

“We’re also leaving behind a full-sized 1250cc motorcycle mounted on the wall in the lounge.”

The home is also good for the tech-savvy, with centralised lighting panel, security and intercom system and five-star energy rating.

Thomas Baldwin director Carol Thomas said it was impossible to appreciate the beauty of the site until you’d seen it for yourself.

“The actual aspect of the property you get from the view of the marina to Earl Hill is really special, and it’s also unique to get it on the upper level veranda as well,” she said.

“And being able to walk down to your local restaurant and tavern and have a meal is really special.”

It also includes a private keyed entry walkway to Bluewater Tavern and Restaurant.

The property has a replacement value of $1.78m, and the owners are happy to meet the market and sell well below replacement cost.

There will be an open home August 14, 11.30am-12.15pm.
