Titans’ destiny on line

-

If they qualify for the finals, Henry will secure a one-year contract extension which will see him coach the Titans until at least the end of 2018.

“It’s coming together,” Henry said.

“It’s been a rewarding time given where the club’s been and what it’s been through. There’s a lot to look forward to.

“It will be disappointing if we can’t cap that off with a finals game this year.

“That’s the task ahead of the squad. That would make it a really positive season.

“The boys have been resilient. They are the ones producing the footy each week.

“Their consistency over the year has won back the fans. The way they play and compete. They have a go for each other. That’s a style and show of character that’s resonated with our fans.”

Superstar recruit Jarryd Hayne is expected to start at fullback despite having limited training time this week because of calf and neck injuries.

Five-eighth Tyrone Roberts (virus) also had an interrupted preparation, with 18th man David Mead on standby if Roberts or Hayne withdraw late.

“Don’t expect the world (of Hayne),” Henry said.

“He needs to get his job done, get some momentum on kick returns. We know he can link and throw a ball out the back. Hopefully we will see that on a couple of occasions.

“If he can get into the game and get through with the added workload of being at fullback that will be a bonus.”

If the Titans beat Penrith it will be impossible for them to be knocked out of the top eight.
