Crash husband offered support
THE husband of a Japanese woman who died after crashing a jet-ski into a boat in the Cairns marina is receiving support in the city.
The couple, both aged 29, were taking part in a jet-ski tour on Thursday morning when it is believed the woman lost control and hit the side of a Sunlover Cruises vessel.
Crew members on the vessel jumped in to aid her, but she could not be revived.
Police have launched an investigation into the fatal crash and are being assisted by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, with an investigator arriving in Cairns.
The woman’s husband had to be assisted from the scene by police.
The Cairns-based Japanese Consulate is offering the man help.
“We are liaising with police and offering support to the family,” a spokeswoman said.
Police are preparing a report for the coroner about the crash, which happened just after 9am.
It is understood security cameras at the marina captured the incident and the footage has been obtained by police.
NQ Watersports, which was operating the tour, has temporarily closed while the investigation is ongoing. Staff are receiving support.
