Ben, the Ivanhoes skipper, said it would be an honour to share the field with brother Josh and with 2013 Gold Medal winner Barnard once again on the biggest day of rugby league in Cairns.

“Us three, we’ve been playing together since we were seven so it’s going to be a really big occasion for us,” he said.

“We never made a final or anything in our junior football. We won a reserve grade in 2009 but this one is a bit more special, being A-grade it means more to us, to the club

“You can’t really describe the feeling until Saturday when you get there and feel the emotion of it all.”

Reed said his loyalty to Ivanhoes was down to the atmosphere and organisati­on and the impact of the coach can’t be understate­d.

“We can’t say too much more about Ben Rauter, what he’s done with the club. Two grand finals in three seasons,” he said.
