I live here because of the climate. It’s nice and warm, and the people are nice. I’m from Tokyo. I came over in 2003. My wife used to work for a company and then she was transferred to a Cairns company and I came here with her. So many things have kept us here. I studied at James Cook University. We also had a boy and a girl. I got a job here. When I talk to my friends back home, I tell them about the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest as the two major attractions here. In Tokyo, the shops are open 24/7, so it’d be great as a consumer if I had more access to services and products here. But I mean that makes Cairns more attractive, because if it becomes a second Gold Coast, we probably won’t want to live here.
