More joy for Sorrows

-

THE Black Sorrows are heading back to Cairns with a new album to their name.

The enduring Australian band, led by well-respected music identity Joe Camilleri (right), will perform at the Edge Hill Tavern tonight.

Faithful Satellite marks the 20th Sorrows album. Collaborating with Camilleri to write the record was former Black Sorrows band member Nick Smith.

“We’ve penned pretty much all The Black Sorrows material,” Camilleri said.

Still, the singer-songwriter can’t help but take a dig at his writing partner. Smith was at the studio this time around, though his feedback wasn’t always welcomed.

“He’d say, ‘oh that’s really good. Why don’t we just try it now for real?’,” Camilleri said. The artist also labelled Smith an immaculate backseat driver.

“Because he’d make you feel (expletive) and great at the same time. Now that’s an art form, isn’t it?” he said.

Camilleri’s visit comes ahead of Paul Kelly’s performance with collaborator Charlie Owen at the Tanks Arts Centre on December 16. Tickets to see The Black Sorrows are from Moshtix.
