RIPPED TO SHREDS
FRIGHTENING ROAD RAGE ATTACK ON WOMAN
A CAIRNS retiree has been left shaken after she had the shirt ripped from her back in a bizarre road rage attack in the CBD.
Vicki Godfrey, 65, was driving on Aplin St during the week when her vehicle was rammed as she waited at traffic lights.
She said she attempted to get details from the male driver involved, but he became agi- tated and jumped from the car to attack her.
“He literally ripped the shirt off my back,” she said. “He bashed me up a bit and hit me against the side of the car.”
The man and his male passenger then took off in their Toyota Landcruiser as bystanders rushed to Ms Godfrey’s aid.
She said the incident had left her shell-shocked.
“They did this in broad daylight to a middle-aged woman,” she said.
“I was left standing in the middle of Aplin St with my bra hanging out. “A woman who had been breast feeding actually came over and put her (shawl) over me.”
Police have launched an investigation and are calling on witnesses to come forward.
The man involved is described as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance and aged in his 30s.
The vehicle had Queensland registration plates: 111 JBW.
The incident took place about 2pm on Wednesday near the intersection of Lake St.
Ms Godfrey said she managed to drive her car home, but it had suffered significant damage from the collision with the entire rear passenger door dented.
She said it had been forensically examined by police. Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au
