Excitement building with Nova in motion

LUXURY units in the $550 million Nova City development will hit the market next week as construction works finally begin at the Spence St site.

Cairns-based company LDI Constructions has already fired up machinery on site after it was awarded a contract for $5 million worth of civil works for the first stage of the highly-anticipated project, which was first announced at the start of last year.

World Class Global sales director and spokesman for the project Zak Thaker said the four-month works included upgrading and enclosing the current open drain and installation of a new sewerage pump station, crucial for the projected population growth in the CBD.

Mr Thaker said LDI Constructions were chosen after an extensive open tender process that was determined by the specialised nature of the civil work, which will continue until February and employ up to 30 people on site.

“This project is the first new residential development for Cairns city in nearly a decade and, arguably, its most significant,” Mr Thaker said.

“The global scale and scope of Nova City is a completely new vision for Cairns that is destined to culminate in many gains, underpinning the city’s future place and viability as Northern Australia’s most vibrant gateway.”

Deputy mayor Terry James joined World Class Global’s project team on site yesterday to view the works in progress.

He said he was confident the project would stimulate the economy and provide a muchneeded boost for Cairns.

“Nova City is an exciting, contemporary project that will change the face of Spence St and signals the beginnings of a new era for Cairns,” said Cr James.

Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the much-anticipated development would deliver a renewed sense of confidence and civic pride in the Cairns region.

“It’s exciting to see so many cranes around our city’s skyline and I can’t wait to see heavy equipment rolling in to work here too,” Mr Pitt said.

Nova City Cairns will unveil its luxurious Spence St display gallery – which includes tiles and furniture imported from Europe – to invited guests at an official opening event on Thursday night.
