AN innovative Cairns home has claimed a prestigious industry prize.

MyMirage by Cairns company MyStyle Homes won the Excellence in Sustainable Living Award at the Master Builders Queensland State Awards.

The 262sq m property at 10 Castleton Entrance, Smithfield Village, wowed the judges with its striking modern features and “green” design.

MyStyle Homes co-owner Heather Ghidella said the award came as a surprise.

“The competition was tough with some really amaz- ing entries across the board,” she said.

Craftsmanship, accessibility and spacious design are the hallmarks of MyMirage, which opened in October last year.

The home’s many features include a PV solar system and low-emissivity glass.

Ms Ghidella, who owns MyStyle Homes with her partner Grant Hartwig, said the entire three-bedroom property was special.

“We live differently in the tropics. There is so much funk in that house,” she said.

“We learned from our previous experiences and came up with a new and improved model.”

Ms Ghidella said she had poured her “heart and soul” into designing MyMirage.

The Master Builders awards night was held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane last week.

The property is also in the running at the 2016 HIA-CSR North Queensland Housing and Kitchen and Bathroom Awards, which will be announced on November 11.

Cairns Chamber of Commerce chief executive Deb Hancock congratulated the MyStyle Homes team for its latest success. Grab the Real Estate Guide in today’s Weekend Post.
