LIFE ON THE ROAD

-

Q What’s it like on the road? What’s your week-to-week schedule like? How do you keep in touch with your support team?

A World Cup season is about April to September. I spend the time doing a couple of races and a few Crankworx events. We kind of get to the event, do the event, leave the event, Monday/Tuesday we’re travelling, Wednesday we’re training, Thursday the event starts. It’s a lot of travel, you’re just busy all the time. It’s quite a big crew of people here in Cairns here to support me. It’s hard when you’re overseas. You can message people but it’s not the same as having them here in person. But they’re very good at replying to messages. Dad at a race I’ll be flat out messaging him. He basically changes from Australia to Europe time. My mental coach, he’s always available when I message. I’ll see a physio overseas and call Megan and she’ll give her advice. It just kind of works and that’s what it’s all about, having those special people in your life to help you.

Q How do you get away from the busy schedule? What do you do on the road?

A There’s not a lot of down time. If you're not racing, you’re training and I guess that’s a way to have down time. But when you’re on tour, you want to make the most out of the season. You’re either recovering from training or jet lag or racing or travelling. On the road I do study, I got into music podcasts this year. It’s good times but hard as well.
