THERE would be few better places to learn to fly than Far North Queensland given its stunning scenery. And while it is not exactly a cheap exercise, if it is your passion then getting in the air is not as difficult as it sounds. Mareeba Airport’s North Queensland Aero Club recommend taking part in a trial flight first. You will learn the fundamenta­ls of flight from a qualified instructor, help perform a safety check before take

off and have the opportunit­y to take the controls once you’re in the air. There are then several types of pilots licences you can aim for, from a recreation licence, right through to a commercial pilot licence or flight instructor rating.
