BOATIE’S LICENCE TO THRILL

ANYONE wanting to operate a boat with an engine power greater than 4.5kW must have a marine licence to make sure their time out on the water is safe. Marine licences are issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. To get one you must be at least 16 years old and have completed a BoatSafe course, or have recognised interstate or overseas qualifications. The BoatSafe course is a test of both theory and practice and takes a minimum of six hours for a group no bigger than four to complete.
