Schache grabs Lion’s share of majors

-

GREG DAVIS BRISBANE young gun Josh Schache is back and on the attack.

The key forward booted four goals and unselfishly gave up the chance for a fifth major with a goal assist in a lopsided Lions intra-club match at Coorparoo yesterday.

The 2015 No.2 draft pick kicked 16 goals in 17 games in his debut campaign last year before being rested for the final three matches after clocking up team-high playing minutes and kilometres covered.

He moved well yesterday and put himself in the right places at the right times and could have left Coorparoo with a bigger bag after spraying two attempts in the first half.

Schache was rested in the final term and was not the only key forward to enjoy a productive afternoon, with Josh Walker booting four goals.

“He got a lot of the footy, he kicked goals, he created goals and he was off at three-quarter time so we were pretty happy with the way he went about it,’’ new senior coach Chris Fagan said of Schache.

“There’s four or five blokes competing for spots up there.”

Jono Freeman added two goals while Eric Hipwood kicked one booming goal in limited minutes to underline the number of tall forward options available to Fagan.

Brisbane will take on Gold Coast in the JLT Challenge pre-season series at Broadbeach tomorrow week.
