Tortoise books his place in tourists’ hearts

-

DANIEL BATEMAN

The Madagascar-originated radiated tortoises at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures don’t need any help to grow, since becoming part of the zoo’s exhibits last year.

The special attention they receive from visitors such as Lachlan Allan, 8, is enough to make their reptilian egos grow large enough as it is.

Lachlan and his family, who are visiting the Far North from Melbourne, got to meet one of the “star turtles” at the zoo yesterday.

The avid reader said he loved books, particularly those written by big-name authors such as Roald Dahl: “He’s brilliant, fantastic,” he said.

Esio Trot (tortoise spelt backwards) stars Alfie the tortoise.

It is today’s title available to Cairns Post readers as part of the Roald Dahl library collection.

Collect your token to buy the book for just $2.60 from participating newsagents, Woolworths and IGA.
