A STONE COLD CAREER

You are the principal of Telstra Business Centre Cairns and the Telstra Stores at Cairns Central and Smithfield. Are there skills in governance that translate between your work life and your role within the Taipans?

AAbsolutely. Regardless of whether you’re running a sporting team, a not for profit or a business, good governance, ethics and people skills are paramount. I often compare things we might be looking at for the Taipans to my business and my experience. I would hope that experience leads to better decisions being made and a stronger organisation.

Tell us a little bit about your basketball career. At what level did you play and how long for?

AIt was an outstanding career cut short by a lack of skill and height. I think I played three games representing the Sunshine Coast when I was about 10 and then played through high school along with a wide range of other sports. I haven’t played basketball, outside of for a bit of fun with some mates occasionally, since high school.
