DYNASTIES OLD & NEW

QI am told you have three daughters who play basketball. Are they Cairns Dolphins in the making?

AI do have three daughters. Chloe isn’t playing basketball at the moment, Emily plays for Redlynch and the Corals and if I could get Bel to put down her hot chips and pick up a ball I think she’d be pretty good. They love shooting around the hoop at home. If they’re good enough to play Dolphins and that’s something they want to do Vanessa and I will support them all they way.

QOn the Dolphins, can you give us your thoughts on the retirement of Mark Worthington and his legacy not just as a Taipan but a basketballer in Australia?

AI think Mark is a testament to Australian basketball not just as a consummate professional but as an example on how to lead and play hard every game – he never leaves anything behind. It will leave a big gap for us to fill next year. He’s the guy you hate playing against your team because he can hurt you from anywhere and the guy you love to have on your team. The outpouring of respect we’ve seen since Mark has announced his retirement just goes to show how well he is regarded.

QColin Donovan has come on as a general committee member at the last AGM. What strengths does he bring to the club?

AColin brings a lot of basketball strength and contacts, he obviously a successful businessman, too. Colin’s contacts and experience can only help us when recruiting players.
