Flower power a big hit with star

chids though, we don’t grow them here.

“I think the alpinia gingers would be good because they’re a soft flower but really a standout flower. That and the heliconias – a bold and beautiful flower, which would be really different compared to what he’s used to seeing in the colder climates.”

Mr Nealon said there would be plenty of the species in stock in late September.

“That’ll be just about perfect. Typically they’re just starting to wake up from the dry season and the cooler period, so you’ll see the full range of tropical flowers,” he said.

“Certainly also the Tablelands with their roses and anthuriums would provide a great local mix as well.”

But Flowers @ The Edge owner Lyn Cronin said, while tropical flowers would suit Elton John’s bright, colourful persona, she would recommend white lilies.

“I imagine he’d like a lot of vases of white open lilies,” she said. I WENT to one of Elton John’s concerts back in the 1970s at Randwick Racecourse in Sydney. It was probably one of his first concerts in Sydney.

I was in a band back then, as you were, and we did a lot of Elton John songs. I would so like to see him when he comes here. Now I play in a ukulele band, the Bad Boys and Girls of Uke. I love it; I love his music.

That concert was the beginning for me.

I think this open air concert at Cazalys will be great because at Randwick it was a stadium concert; it was open air too. Back then, it was just screaming teenagers and I was one of them and we were upfront. Everyone was standing and dancing; his showmanship was unlike anything we’d seen in Australia before.

I’m waiting to see if some of the other people in the band are going to go and I’m going to see if we could get a group together.
