ON TRACK FOR GREAT THINGS - AS DANNIELLE HAS FOUND

-

APPRENTICES, trainees, employers and trainers are called on to nominate for the 2017 Queensland Training Awards.

Nominations for the awards, which acknowledge the best of the best in the vocational education and training sector, close on March 31 and span 14 categories.

Dannielle Weston, who studied a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Maintenance – Diesel Fitting), was a 2016 finalist for Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year and says she really enjoyed the awards experience.

She grew up helping her dad tinker with machinery then, after becoming a mum at a young age, was motivated to set an example for her son. “It was nice getting to know all the other finalists and to hear their stories,” she says.

“My involvement in the awards has given me more opportunities at work, and I am now mentoring other apprentices. I’ve had many people tell me how inspiring it is to see a woman following a male-dominated training pathway and succeeding.”

Training and Skills Minister Yvette D’Ath says the awards showcase excellence in vocational education and training and demonstrate the breadth and quality of Queensland’s training and vocational education industry.

“Quality training provides pathways for Queenslanders into employment and can be the key that many people need to reach this goal,” she says.

“These apprentices, trainees, vocational students, teachers, trainers, employers and training organisations represent the cream of Queensland’s training talent.”
