NICK DALTON basics approach to business advice and have just completed our new strategic plan with the key themes of advocacy, information, connectivity and listening,” she said.

Other events on the year’s program include a small business summit as part of Small Business Week in May, which involves a VIP-invitation only networking session, and a health and wellness seminar later in the year.

Ms Hancock said the chamber, Advance Cairns, Tourism Tropical North Queensland and the region’s Regional Development Australia group would be drawing up a state election wish list, highlighted by the $180 million expansion of the city’s convention centre.

The chamber is planning an election debate and analysis of the federal budget.

Mr Loukas said, with more than 100 years of history, “we need to continually look at ways we can improve”.

“We’ve started a strategic review with the aim of getting closer to our members,” he said.

“(We need to) keep in our sights the focus of growing the region and the benefits that this will bring for our members.”

Mr Davies said he had always been active in various business advocacy groups.

“I feel the chamber is a great platform to help influence outcomes that will benefit Cairns’ economy and community,” he said. editorial@
