Upbeat Marlins in hunt for first win

-

JORDAN GERRANS THE Marlin Coast Marlins playing squad feel they are not far away from their first win in the Queensland State Netball League.

In their return to the state wide competition a fortnight ago, the Marlins recorded two tight losses but coach Winnie Whately believes they showed the opposition they would not be pushovers with two encouraging displays.

The Marlins squad will take confidence into the contest as their opponents today, the Widebay Thundercats, were smashed by Capricorn Claws in their only game so far this year.

“The girls have been very positive and upbeat despite the first weekend of the competition with two losses,” Whately said.

“The group knows they are nearly there. “A win is not too far away. “It is a long travel day to play just the one game but the girls are really keen.

“The girls are excited and keen for a win.”

The Marlins squad and coaching staff did not see the Thundercats play in the first weekend of games in Caloundra.

Akalya Peterson will miss the trip south to Bundaberg for the Round 3 game through injury with Whately expecting Chloe Fredericksen to slot into the defence perfectly.

The Marlins just have the one game this weekend as they have the bye in Round 4.
