Beverley gets back to his best

-

Many regard the 2nd Test of 2006 as one of the great modern Ashes Test victories for Australia. For some reason no one gave our quality side a hope when Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood put on 310 as England batted for two days for 551 runs in the first innings. We only gave England a 38-run lead but Warney routed them early on day 5 and Michael Hussey led Australia to victory in a fair run chase at five runs an over. JACOB GRAMS The follow on has a bad wrap in Australia. At Headingly in 1981 it was also the wrong call. Australia made 401 despite six wickets to Ian Botham, then knocked England over for 174 (Botham 50) and enforced the follow on. Beefy was seeing them well and smashed 149 not out in the second innings, lifting his side from 4-41 to 356 all out. The 129-run lead was enough. Botham took a back seat, Bob Willis took 8-43 and England won by 18 runs.
