CAIRNS Regional Council is tight-lipped on the results of a doorknock survey gauging whether businesses want Grafton St to be cut to two lanes of traffic.

Snoogies Health Bar owner Aron Bradshaw was sceptical about the idea despite the assurances it would create room for a bike lane and 20 per cent more parking.

“Any amount of roadworks around us has always taken longer than expected to com- plete,” he said. “My prime concern is how long it is going to take and whether it’s going to be worth it in the end.

“It didn’t help Lake St and it didn’t really help McLeod St.

“I think it’s just a waste of money, to be honest.”

An online survey posted on the council’s website will remain active until Friday.

Mayor Bob Manning said no decision would be made until the community’s feelings were known.

“We’ve also had our senior marketing communications officer knocking on every door of every premises that fronts onto Grafton St, to give us a direct result,” he said.

Cr Manning said it would not be appropriate to reveal the results of that survey yet.

“We will listen to what the people say.

“We’re not going to ask people something and then ignore what they say,” he said.

“We haven’t made any decision yet.”
