The Weekend Post

Key component of all the great players

PART SIX OF CAIRNS POST’S QUEST TO BUILD THE PERFECT ATHLETE LOOKS AT COURAGE

-

STEPHEN WILSON — JOCKEY

The well-travelled Irish hoop is as courageous as they come. Not just Wilson, but all jockeys show great levels of courage to even leg up a horse and ride them at breakneck speed around a racetrack. Wilson is one of the best in region and is not afraid to travel long distances to find a ride. KEVIN WARD — FNQ HEAT Being a goalkeeper is much more than standing at the back waiting for the ball to come your way. Ward has some massive decisions to make and is never afraid to leave his box, backing himself to clear dangerous balls before they become problematic or jump off his line to rise above the pack and punch the ball away.

JESS SKINNER — BROTHERS HOCKEY

Ever had a rock hard ball travelling 120km/h heading straight for your face? Welcome to the life of a hockey goalkeeper, but it’s a task Brothers star Skinner embraces every weekend in the Cairns Hockey competition. The fact so few put their hand up for the job is a fair nod to its challenge.

MEL KELLY — CAIRNS FALCONS

Kelly is an Australian National Representative and Cairns Falcons gridiron WR and LB, has all the components of a leader and is courageous. She has determination, drive and focus towards being the best at everything she does. She maintains a high quality of athleticism that involves mental and physical work and leads by action, composure, poise, respects and integrity for the game. She has made the preparations before engaging the field and then she takes it to another level on the field. She makes everyone around her better. A true leader.
