Brothers make a hairy duo

They may have the two rudest hairstyles in AFL Cairns but Manunda coach Marc Harbrow describes the Flint brothers as “the rock of the club”. The brothers, Ryan and Corey Flint, have come through the Hawks junior system and catch the eye for their courage on the field, as well as their long locks. The brothers, Ryan and Corey Flint, have come through the Hawks junior system and catch the eye for their courage on the field, as well as their long locks.

Corey, who won the Hawks best and fairest in 2016, takes the cake with a flowing mullet that Billy Ray Cyrus would be proud of.

“He has a filthy mullet,” Ryan said with a laugh about his brother.

“I do not know what he is thinking but he reckons it helps with the girls.”

Harbrow has had Corey in his best players two of the opening three games of the season but can’t help but laugh at his choice of hairstyle.

“Corey has got the mullet,” Harbrow said.

“Ryan has the dreads and there is always a comment about their hair at every training.”

Harbrow, in his second season as senior coach of the Hawks, likened Corey’s attack on the footy to that of triple premiership player from the Brisbane Lions, Jonathan Brown.

“Corey is phenomenal, he does the unthinkable every game,” Harbrow said.

“He has no fear, a pack could be coming at him and he will run back with the flight like Jonathan Brown.

“You think he is going to end up in ambulance.

“Ryan is just a work horse, he keeps going, going and going.”

Hawks travel to Holloways Beach Sporting Complex to tackle the winless Cairns City Lions today while South Cairns Cutters host the Centrals Trinity Beach Bulldogs at Fretwell Park.

North Cairns Tigers host Port Douglas Crocs at Watsons Oval this afternoon.
