THE Cairns African community loves the tropics.

The Far North Queensland African Community Association are championing multiculturalism across a region they say feels like home.

FNQAC secretary Justus Kithiia said he loved the sense of community that thrives in regional centres.

“The weather is pretty much like Kenya – nice and tropical and warm right through the year,” he said.

“There is more community here as opposed to the metropolitan towns.”

The organisation is holding an “African Night” tonight at the German Club to raise money for African Day and International Day of the African Child events to be held later this year.

The Young Africa Girls Dancing Group and drumming by SEWA will breathe life into the Bungalow club.

Mr Kithiia said money was sent to children coming from conflict and family dysfunction.

FNQAC has grown to almost 100 members since it started in 2013. Today’s event starts at 5.30pm.
