Sipi steels for Cup return

- JACOB GRAMS

FNQ Heat’s inside man Lorenzo Sipi will be taking no prisoners against his old mates from the Northern Fury in a well-timed return from a month-long injury lay-off.

The 25-year-old has no thought of easing his way back either, declaring his shoulder “fully recovered” as he prepares to bring his trademark physical presence to the FFA Cup contest tomorrow.

Sipi said it hurt to miss out on the Heat’s trip to Brisbane last weekend and would make sure to channel his energy into the traditional rivals.

“They’ll know I’m out on the pitch, that’s for sure. I won’t be hiding away,” he said.

“It’s all good fun out there. There’s always a bit of banter between the boys and it will be good fun to go and play in a good game of football.

“They’ll be out to kill me on the pitch but after the game we’ll catch up and have a beer.”

Sipi said he was only slightly down on match fitness and would do whatever role was necessary to fulfil the needs of coach Tim Campbell.

“I’ll just go out and do my job and keep to what I’m good at,” he said.

Sipi said there was “a big job to do” against a much-improved Fury side and hoped to attract a good crowd to Barlow Park to keep the FFA Cup dream alive.

“When we went down to Ingham and played against them, we didn’t get the result we wanted so hopefully we can get one back on them,” he said.

“Hopefully we get some numbers there to support the boys and that and you know come Sunday we just want to get the job done and get the win.”
