REACH NEW HEIGHTS BY OBTAINING A HELICOPTER PILOT LICENCE

-

EDUCATION

In Australia, there are two types of licences available for those pursuing a career as a helicopter pilot. The commercial helicopter pilot licence qualifies you to work as a helicopter pilot anywhere in the country, while a private helicopter pilot licence allows flying helicopters for leisure. A student pilot licence must be obtained before completing between 50-125 hours of flight training time. Appropriate theoretical examinations must also be completed.

FURTHER TRAINING

Some helicopter flying schools offer further training to enhance employability, allow pilots to work in more specific industries or simply follow an interest. Further training courses include piston powered type endorsement, gas turbine powered endorsement, sling load operations, low level operations, multi-engine endorsement, night rating, instructor rating, float operations and winch operations.

PAY SCALE

The average salary for a helicopter pilot is $66,000 per year. More experience in a variety of flying locations and conditions will result in higher salaries. Wages can also vary by employer type and location.
