Ellis Beach Nippers dive in

A crop of Ellis Beach Nippers are setting themselves up to take on the rest of Queensland. North Queensland Surf Life Saving Club of the Year Ellis Beach will send a team to compete in the 2017 Queensland Pool Rescue Championsh­ips this weekend. It is the first time in years that the club has competed in the championsh­ips, with the squad consisting of Tehya Wuoti, Connie Southwood, Alaina Smith, Kiana Turnbull, Sena Nakajima and Anastasia Wynberg.

North Queensland Surf Life Saving Club of the Year Ellis Beach will send a team to com- pete in the 2017 Queensland Pool Rescue Championsh­ips at the Gold Coast this weekend.

It is the first time in many years that the club has competed in the championsh­ips, with the squad consisting of Tehya Wuoti, Connie Southwood, Al- aina Smith, Kiana Turnbull, Sena Nakajima and Anastasia Wynberg.

“We have a group of very strong swimmers in our under-14 age group so wanted to give them an opportunit­y to compete at this level with the best in the state,” team manager Rachael Wynberg said.

They will compete in manikin tow, manikin carry, brick carry, patient tow, obstacle and line throw, and team relays in brick carry, obstacles and medley.

Open to competitor­s aged from under 11 through to masters from all 59 Surf Life Saving clubs throughout Queensland, there are 132 events in the championsh­ips, which are being held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
