HIDING vegetables is no longer child’s play, thanks to Melbourne’s newest food trend.

These colourful burger buns are made with 50 per cent vegetables, have lower calories than the standard brioche bun and are high in antioxidants and vitamins.

Too Many Chiefs cafe in Brighton jumped on board three months ago and found customers now prefer the guilt-free bun.

Owner Jayben Newson said the bright breads have turned heads and created a lot of attention with foodies.

“They’re super popular because they not only look great but they’re also full of flavour and are really healthy for you,” Mr Newson said.

“We have about 10 different varieties and even offer a loaf of bread which is an alternative option to sourdough or multigrain breads.”

Mr Newson said all the vegetable buns are vegan and his cafe supplies a variety of flavours such as kale, matcha, beetroot, pumpkin and charcoal.

“Each bun is full of different vitamins and antioxidants. The beetroot bun is high in vitamin C, iron and magnesium,” he said.

“Whereas the pumpkin bun is high in vitamin A and zinc.”

Mr Newson said all ingredients were sourced fresh from local farmers and suppliers.
