Zoe Palmer was visiting Cairns from Western Australia and said she was glad her holiday coincided with the annual show. She is in town visiting her parents.

Her daughter Payton Van Veen, two, yesterday seemed oblivious to the action happening around her as she happily chomped down on a show staple – the dagwood dog.

“This show is better than the ones in Western Australia,” Ms Palmer said.

“It’s bigger and there more for kids.

“We’re enjoying the sun. It’s hammering down rain at home at the moment.

“We’ve been on a few of the smaller rides, which she loved, and played a few games.
