Forty-five years ago, news websites didn’t exist. Nobody owned a smartphone and television news was in its infancy.

Mrs Swaffer is not interested in any of these modern forms of news delivery, preferring to read the Cairns Post.

“I think I’ll continue to read the hard copy” she said. “I’m a proud Australian that lives in Cairns. I love the community and the area and I like to read what’s happening locally.”
