Other recent finds in our neck of woods
2014 – A newly discovered type of eel-tailed catfish (Tandanus tropicanus) was found in the Tully River by researchers from James Cook University and the US Geological Survey. 2014 – Leaf-tailed gecko (Al- tuarius eximius), more commonly known as the Cape Melville leaf-tailed gecko, was discovered at Cape Melville, Cape York.
2015 – Cairns Marine collected a potentially new species of peppermint hogfish from Holmes Reef at a depth of about 60m, about 240km east of Cairns.
2015 – Carnivorous plant, the bladderwort (Utricularia), was found at the Jardine River in Cape York, about 1016km north of Cairns.
2016 – A rare spitting spider was found by Bush Blitz scientists on one of the remote Coral Sea islands.
2017 – New species of funnelweb spider (Mygalomorphae Barychelidae Idiomata sp.) found on Cape York.
