IF social media has taught us nothing else it’s that it doesn’t matter how good food tastes as long as it looks good on the plate. Turning your basic chicken stir-fry into a visual feast is now seen as a skill, particular­ly to boost those number of likes on your Instagram #foodporn post. Presentati­on, though, is serious business for chefs and the Cairns Cooking School is hosting a class in the Art of Food Plating to help give home cooks some of the tricks of the trade. The workshop will be held next Saturday, July 29 from 10.30amnoon. During the class students will be taught how to plate four dishes from prepared ingredient­s to create the perfectly presented dish. You will learn new techniques such as foams, spherifcat­ion, and reverse spherifica­tion and flavoured powders and learn tips and concepts to make your dishes look as good as they taste to impress guests.
