McEvoy’s prep is all tied up

-

CAM McEvoy says he wants to take a leap of faith at the world swimming titles in Budapest.

The Bond University physics student and would-be astronaut has been guilty in the past of over-analysing every aspect of his preparation looking for a sign he can be successful, and is slowly learning to put his trust in the work he has done.

“I’m very analytic and I like to have everything analysed to the nth degree,’’ he said.

“I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to let it all unravel naturally and not try to think of certain clues or signs or benchmarks which are the telltale signs that I am going to swim well, and rather trust that I am going to swim well regardless.”

McEvoy, 23, now likes to visualise himself with ropes around his waist, pulling outwards and filling him with tension.

“It is an image of then just letting those ropes lose their tension and soften up,’’ he said.

“It is a nice, melting relaxation.’’
