Versatile Veronica’s a picture of success
ALICIA NALLY photographers are self-employed and photographers, like Ms Sagredo, who own and operate their own business have additional responsibilities.
They must advertise, schedule appointments, set and adjust equipment, purchase supplies, keep records, bill customers and pay bills.
“I’ve always worked in the photography industry and gained experience in different aspects while studying,” Ms Sagredo said.
“I studied photography at Sydney TAFE and a private college but photography is visual so having a strong portfolio was a major component.
“I would only recommend it to people who are passionate about it.
“You have to be creative and be constantly on the lookout for new ways to take photos and keep up with new technology.”
Ms Sagredo said having to fly in a helicopter and take pictures of another chopper which had crashed was the scariest assignment she had even been on.
She said attending workshops and courses to develop skills was a must in a constantly evolving industry.
“If you are running your own business it means wearing many hats so you have to be aware of the challenges there,” Ms Sagredo said.
“It’s always good to specialise in a specific area of photography and develop your skills and reputation to ensure future business.”
