WELCOME to a glorious day in Tropical Far North Queensland. We have a terrific day of racing here at the Amateurs Cup today: day two of this iconic carnival. Yes, it’s truly the Melbourne Cup of the north and we’ve got a magic line-up in the premier race today. Horses have paraded well for the Best Place on Earth Cup today and they’re just about all loaded into their barriers. Whoahhhh, Kiss Aquis Goodbye went in hard then and slammed into the gate. He’s been scratched folks, which is very disappointing; there was a lot of money riding on him today. Not sure when we’ll see him race again in Cairns. Righto, we’ve got them all in nicely; they’re settled ... yes, waiting ... AND THEY’RE OFF! Nothing Like a Katter has taken full advantage of the number one barrier and is setting the pace early. Oh, the jockey’s lost his hat and it’s slowed him right down. Princess Palaszczuk is in full stride and has her nose in front with Mulgrave Pitt tucked in behind her flank. Entsch Wazza Here is hanging out wide and he’s got a lot of work to do if he’s going to make it to the United Nations finishing post first. He’s showed a bit of form coming into today in the $24m Marine Precinct Pledge.

Out there with Entsch Wazza Here is Malcolm in the Middle who looks to be trumped by Political Indecision as they pass the 1200m mark. Taking on the corner gracefully is Mayor Bob’s Your Uncle as Townsville horse Brownsville Hill makes an aggressive move on Qantas Miffed.

In the final pack Bypass Crawford is going steady, not making too many mistakes, then there’s Whistleblower Pyneneedles looking to make a statement with Lake Placid Croc snapping at their heels. Who’s Heard From Billy is plodding along at the rear, out of sight, out of mind. I’m afraid Who’s Heard From Billy is going to have to do too much from here to make up that much ground.

Princess Palaszczuk is coming on strong now, an election in her nostrils and she can smell a victory. Mulgrave Pitt is charging, throwing everything bar the Mulgrave Mill at his State Development Area. Malcolm in the Middle has bumped Political Indecision and I think the stewards will want to take a look at that later. Mayor Bob’s Your Uncle is trying to make a break ... But he’s not having it all his own way. Look out, Brownsville Hill has slipped to the back of the field; she looks thirsty, punters. Send her back to her new stadium.

Bypass Crawford is now with Princess Palaszczuk and Mulgrave Pitt and it looks like we’re headed for a photo finish in the Best Place on Earth Cup.

Oh my, look out! Lake Placid Croc has eaten them all. It’s a mauling, folks.

It really is the race that stops a nation.
