TEARS OF JOY FOR COWBOYS’ GLORY

-

Q AWhat was your reaction when the Cowboys finally broke through to win in 2015?

I was extremely emotional actually. I was at a pub in Brisbane with some close friends who were a couple of ex-Cowboys players, John Manning and Jamie McDonald, and I often wondered how I’d feel the day the Cowboys won a comp. I didn’t know if I’d be jealous or full of pride or what, but certainly the overriding emotion was elation when they won that game. I don’t know if it was a combination of how epic that finish was, but I was just really overcome with emotion and I think I genuinely cried for about 45 minutes after. I was a blubbering mess. I had to sit in the corner of this pub and blokes had to keep checking on me to make sure I was OK. I was just overcome with emotion. It was a really strong sense of pride and happiness, knowing where the club had come from and still being friends with some guys who were part of it.

QWhat would it mean for you to see the Cowboys get through to another decider?

AIf we’re able to play in the grand final next week and possibly win, it would be a dream come true. I came close as a player to a premiership in 2005. It still haunts me … the fact we weren’t able to take that opportunity. But to be able to play a small part in the club going on to win a competition this year or any time in future would fill me with immense pride.
