Filthy over pollution pump

RECENTLY I was walking on our Esplanade. It was early morning and I noticed a council worker operating a large pump.

This was at the far northern end, near the pirate ship. I noticed bottles, cans, plastic bags and other rubbish being pumped out. It was all going straight into the ocean. I was told by the man it was all the rubbish from the stormwater drains.

There was no device to stop the rubbish going into the sea. I was told that the council did have a net at the south end of the Esplanade but not at this end. I just find it so unbelievable that the council can spend $1 million on a piece of “art” yet cannot spend a little on a net to protect our Reef. Jennifer Latter, Manoora
