Ryan happy to make trek from Georgetown

- JORDAN GERRANS HORSE RACING

ATHOL Ryan does not mind the long hours behind the wheel if he has a decent horse on board.

The Georgetown-based trainer will start two horses at Cannon Park this afternoon, Johnny Fix It and My Girl Chaz, in the second race of the thin four-race card today, the $7500 Class B Handicap (1250m).

All up it is a 12-hour round trip to do the thing Ryan loves.

“You have to do it if you want to do it,” Ryan said.

Johnny Fix It has run in the top three in seven of its last eight starts.

My Girl Chaz will have comeback hoop Sonja Wiseman in the saddle today.

The first of four jumps from Cannon Park at 12.45pm.

Meanwhile, Atherton trainer Bruce Hunter scored a winner in the return to racing at Cluden Park on Thursday. With jockey Amanda Thomson on board, Bon Temps scored by a nose on the line in the 0 – 60 Handicap (1000m).

Cairns’ Rhonda Inglis also tasted victory at Townsville as Lilly Kareena took out the second last of the day, the Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m).
