Toads in plan to get their revenge

- JACOB GRAMS CRICKET

PAIN has been all too familiar to Rovers in the past few weeks but Mulgrave has plans to inflict even more and right a worrying record in the process.

While flying high well above the pack so far in 2017-18, the Toads have not beaten today’s opponents away from home in five seasons.

Mulgrave coach Marcus McGregor-Cassady said it “might be time for revenge” against the bogey side, although they would have to do it without regular starters Justin Reid, Andrew Bone and Will Robertson.

“Rovers have had the wood on us the past couple of years so it should be a good game,” he said.

“Our depth will be tested, but our A-grade squad goes down to about 15 players which is nice and we have a couple of blokes with the opportunity to step up and hopefully they can put in a good performance and give us a nice selection headache.”

The Toads won a tight one last week and McGregor-Cassady said the early season success was down to players being challenged more at training.

Rovers have been on the wrong side of tight games of late, including against Norths last weekend, and all-rounder Brenton Edwards said drop- ping their guard against Mulgrave would end in a similar result.

“Hopefully the boys can learn from their mistakes and take the opportunities to present themselves,” he said.

“Even though we haven’t got the results the past few weeks, we haven’t been too far off. It’s just about doing the one-percenters a bit better.”

Edwards said he noticed his side had been particularly upbeat despite recent losses. But he said one or two Rovers would need to put their hand up to beat the ladder leaders.

“Someone always seems to put their hand up when they need it and that’s what being a successful team is all about,” Edwards said.

Rovers will need it more than ever now leg-spinner Jasper Sumner has joined up with Norths in Brisbane.
