THE INFAMOUS BIFF

-

Q What most of us remember you for up here is the shot you landed on Steve Price. How do you feel about that? A Mate, I did play footy as well. It’s funny you play nearly 200 NRL games, eight Origins and six Tests and everyone remembers you for a right hand I guess and more the boxing on the field rather than the football. I’m not sure what that says about me as a footballer. I’ve got a different opinion about how all that’s portrayed. I know in a gladiator sport like rugby league some people love it, but there’s a bigger side to it. Unfortunately, people have lost their lives from punches and why I’m sort of known for that, it’s not something I’m overly proud about. Not long after that I went to my daughter’s school. A couple of kids in her year come running up to me and they’d watched it on YouTube, asking about it and as a father of three young boys as well, that’s not something I’m proud of. But sometimes that’s part of rugby league and there’s two sides to it. Q What’s your side to it? What sparked the anger at Suncorp Stadium, Game 3 2009? A The build up to it, that series and the two games before, there were what we considered some grubby tactics from Queensland and once we got into camp for the third game we spoke about not putting up with those grubby tactics and to put a stop to it. When it happened, it was all sort of slow motion and I thought it was time, someone had to stand up and stop – and the rest is Origin history.
