Jamie back for Power of Pallets auction action

-

JAMIE Durie was so passionate about the Power of Pallets in Cairns last year, he did what all gardening types do – he wanted to grow the event.

He has thrown his support behind the charity fundraiser again this year, but helped upcycle it in the same way foun- der Kate Fern has done with pallets, turning it into an even more glamorous event.

“This year’s Power of Pallets auction is now a black-tie gala ball and dinner,” Kate says. “Jamie is back as our MC this year and we’ll have entertainment from Maria’s, a 10- piece band made up from hospital staff.”

The night is expected to raise about $30,000 for the FNQ Hospital Foundation, taking the total raised since 2014 to more than $100,000.

This year, the event will be held at Tanks in Edge Hill.

“We’re excited with the new venue, as it allows for an exhibition of everyone’s work two weeks prior to the event.”

The exhibition opens at Tanks next Friday but silent bidding has already started on items which include tables, children’s furniture and even a double-decker dog bed.

Other auction items include Johnathan Thurston headgear and a signed Cowboys jersey.

The exhibition opens November 3 at 6pm and the ball is on November 17. To place a bid or buy a ticket, visit thepowerofpallets.org.au online.
