He was handed a 12-month good behaviour bond and 200 hours community service. Carney played 17 matches that season. 2008: Carney refused a club- imposed alcohol ban. The Raiders sacked him and the NRL banned him until 2010. 2009: In February, received a 12month suspended jail sentence after vandalism in Goulburn. He was released to play for CDRL club Atherton Roosters. 2010: Carney led Sydney Roosters to the NRL grand final, won the Dally M and represente­d Australia. 2011: After three alcohol-related incidents, Carney was sacked from the Roosters. 2012: Carney signed with the Sharks, led them to the finals and represente­d NSW. 2013: Carney once again led the Sharks to the finals and was resigned on a five-year contract. 2014: In June, a photograph emerged of Carney urinating in his own mouth. He was sacked. 2015-2017: Carney moved to the English Super League to play for Catalans Dragons. In 2017 he represente­d Salford. After being unable to secure an NRL deal, he signed with the Pride.
