Peru’s long trek to Cup

PERU faces formidable obstacles of travel, time zones and climate as it attempts, through homeand-away playoff matches, against New Zealand to qualify for the soccer World Cup for the first time in 35 years. New Zealand (ranked 122nd) host 10th-ranked Peru today, who will be without their captain and leading scorer Paolo Guerrero; missing while provisiona­lly suspended for failing a doping test following the World Cup qualifier against Argentina.
