THE extensive transformation of a former Mulgrave Rd restaurant into a diverse “health and wellness” precinct is officially complete.

The Barr St Markets in Earlville open to the public today, spearheaded by a 1200sq m pharmacy and health food store.

A gourmet butcher, physiotherapist, medical centre, seafood market and juice company are among the wide range of businesses now trading from the new complex.

The project was brought to life by Cairns brothers Frank and Vince Pappalardo – the owners of the Pease St Discount Drug Store outlet – and their business partner Cameron Lock.

It comes almost four years after Cairns’ longstanding Sizzler restaurant, which formerly traded from the Mulgrave Rd site, closed its doors.

“Some time ago we recognised that more of our customers were seeking information and looking for options to help them live healthier lifestyles,” Vince Pappalardo said.

“From this, my brother and I set out to create a complete health and lifestyle destination for the Cairns community and to deliver the highest standard of retail, healthcare and lifestyle services.”

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning cut the ribbon at last night’s official opening of the Barr St Markets.

“We look forward to seeing the development of the markets as locals embrace the convenience, accessibility and large variety of services and products,” Mr Pappalardo said.
